We used projection mapping to transform a gigantic stone table into a magic surface
Expo Dubai 2020 / Giants
As part of the iconic Mobility Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, designed by Norman Foster, we had the privilege of collaborating with Mediapro Exhibitions, who commissioned and directed this extraordinary project. Our team was invited to create a video mapping experience that brought history to life in a breathtaking and meaningful way.
At the heart of the pavilion lies a monumental 16-meter stone table, surrounded by three towering sculptures of legendary Muslim explorers: Ibn Majid, Al Bakri, and Ibn Battuta. These figures, essential to the history of mobility in the Arab world, set the stage for a journey into the past.
Our challenge was to transform the table into a magical storytelling surface, using projection mapping to recreate historical maps, adventures, and scenarios. The goal was to achieve a visual language that felt authentic and historically accurate, while avoiding an overly technological aesthetic.
The result is a 5-minute audiovisual show, perfectly synchronized with custom audio design and carefully orchestrated lighting effects that enhance the immersive and cinematic atmosphere of the space.
