For the 20th anniversary of Barcelona’s iconic Torre Glòries, we were invited by Protopixel to create a special light show for the La Mercè festival. This project wasn’t about projecting images or turning the building into a giant screen—it was about transforming its architecture into a living canvas shaped entirely by light.

The tower’s completely renewed lighting system, spanning 43 floors and more than 120 windows per level, now features four RGB LEDs in every window—each one four times more powerful than before. Thanks to Protopixel’s seamless integration of hardware and software, the entire structure can be animated at a fluid 60 frames per second, opening the door to a new kind of architectural storytelling.

In our workflow, every LED becomes a pixel. Nearly 20,000 individual points of light are mapped and animated one by one, allowing us to craft organic behaviors, subtle textures, and flowing patterns that move in perfect harmony with the building’s geometry. Instead of pursuing the resolution of a conventional screen, we embraced an aesthetic closer to pixel art—minimal, intentional, and unexpectedly expressive at an architectural scale.

The result is a luminous tribute that turns Torre Glòries into a beacon for the city: a structure that doesn’t just illuminate the skyline, but engages it, radiating color, rhythm, and an ever-changing sense of life.
